Miami Heat working out ex - New York Knicks centre Eddy Curry – NBA Update
On the draft night, Miami Heat accomplished their first task to perfection by trading up to get the 28th pick Norris Cole at the point guard position. Now, the team’s attention has shifted towards signing a centre, who
can provide some backup support to the Miami’s big three LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the next season.
The Heat is considering free agency options in this regard and according to some sources, the team has been in hot pursuit of the New York Knicks’ big man Eddy Curry in recent times and have carried out a few workouts with him.

Miami Heat’s President Pat Riley has already made his stance very clear on the free agency and what he requires from it, "There's going to be two roster spots left, maybe three, that we want to save to make sure that when free
agency comes, that we have an opportunity to fill them with young, energetic, veteran players,"
With the point guard position now secured, the team desperately needs a big in the centre court and the 28 year old Curry has emerged to be Heat’s primary target.
The 7 foot centre mostly has been reduced on the bench for the last few years and didn’t play even a single game during the 2010-2011 season. The last time Eddy was seen in action for the whole season was back in 2006-2007, when
he posted the best performance of his career. The big man averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game that year and had a great influence on the New York Knicks. During the season, Curry also landed his career-high 43 points against the Milwaukee Bucks
and spearheaded his team towards a thrilling overtime victory.
However, everything went downhill afterwards when New York’s Coach Isiah Thomas trimmed down Eddy’s playing minutes from 35 to 25 in the next season. With the Arrival of Mike D’Antoni as the new head coach, Eddy was seen completely
out of the picture and he has played only 10 games in the last three seasons.
Earlier this year, Curry was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves in a three-team trade involving the Denver Nuggets as the New York Knicks acquired the All-Star Carmelo Anthony. On 1st March, the Timberwolves bought out
Curry’s contract and he turned into a free agent without playing a single game for the Wolves.
Curry is still quite young with a gigantic physique and a decent experience. He carries all the attributes Miami Heat are interested in. With Heat desperate for a good centre, it is quite likely that Curry plays in Miami’s uniform
in the next season. The things that might stand are his lack of game fitness and a sore knee.
