Miami Heat’s Erik Spoelstra and LeBron James share thoughts on Linsanity – NBA Update
The Miami Heat are team next scheduled to face the New York Knicks and the phenomenon that is Jeremy Lin. Linsanity is coming to town and the Heat are looking forward to it as much as everyone else in the NBA.
It has been a roller coaster ride not only for Jeremy Lin, but also for the NBA. Since the New York Knicks point guard started his dream run, the whole league has been transfixed, itching to see what will happen next.
"It's a great story," Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said. "It really is."
Jeremy Lin burst onto the scene for New York as a reserve and has since taken over the starting point guard role, taken over the role of the leader on the team and taken over as the face of Madison Square Garden.
The Asian-American has led his side to one victory after the other, and the world has welcomed it with unbelievable enthusiasm. Recently though, some have questioned whether Lin would have been acclaimed the way he has had he been not of Asian descent.
That though, isn’t an issue for Spoelstra,
"It's a great rags-to-riches story," Spoelstra said. "That's the bigger story. And hopefully years from now it'll be about that, not about the ethnicity."
Lin was an undrafted entity not long ago, bouncing from team to team already in his short NBA career. That is why his story has caught the imagination of millions. It’s a classic under dog’s tale. From an unheard of reserve, to the most celebrated phenomena
currently in world sport, it has been a fabulous journey not only for Lin, but also for those cheering him on.
LeBron James is no stranger to stardom, and he has had his fair share of negative attention as well. A phenomenal athlete from his school days, LeBron came into the NBA with a level of fanfare not seen before. He enjoyed great support for many years, until
recently a “Decision” led to him turning public enemy number 1.
James too though, has been enjoying Lin’s stupendous run. He remarked that more than anything, Jeremy has proved himself to be a great player and has helped his side achieve a lot of success in a short span of time. That, according to James, should be the
focus of this particular story, rather than Lin’s ethnicity.
"I think it's taken away from it, honestly," Heat forward LeBron James said. "But at the end of the day, he's winning ball games. That's ultimately what it comes down to. You average 25 and 9 and lose, it doesn't mean much. You should realize how good of
a player he is and not get caught up in everything else. He's a really good player."
