Miami Heat’s James Jones and Norris Cole staying put during the lockout: NBA Update
Recently acquired Miami Heat point guard Norris Cole and small forward James Jones might have a lot of difference in experience, class and the on the on court impact, but they have one thing in common and that is their agent Joel
Bell.
Bell recently revealed that both his Miami Heat clients are not looking to play overseas during the lockout.
In this time of uncertainty, especially after the first meeting between the players union and franchise owners on Monday landed in hot waters and the league went on to file two claims against the players, most player are pondering
over their options overseas. This development thus comes as a surprise. It is quite difficult for most of the players to just sit at home and do nothing during this lockout, which is now taking a shape of a tornado that might engulf the entire next season.
The 22 year old Cole, who was picked up by the Heat as 28th overall from the 2011 National Basketball Association Draft has not just avoided the pro-am league recently, but is also not interested in playing with international
teams. The young gun is use this time to prepare himself for playing along the likes of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in the next season, whenever it takes place. Nowadays Cole is training with his college coach.
"That went well, so he'll stick with it. He's getting his work in, strength training.” Bell said, “When he was down in Miami, they gave him a bunch of stuff to work on, as much information that they could."
Cole is a true point guard and is thought to be a very good perimeter and three-point shooter. In his last college basketball season, the athletic guard tallied 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.
As far Jones, who is a free agent, is concerned, the search didn’t take place because the 30 year old serves as the secretary-treasurer of the National Basketball Players Association. Moreover, now his name has been listed among
the 13 defendants in the lawsuit that NBA had registered against the players union.
About James, Bell said, "He's neck-deep in the union stuff, how can he go overseas? James isn't going anywhere."
Jones, who remained with the Heat from 2008, played 81 games in the previous season and bagged 5.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game during 19.1 minutes average stay on court. He is one of the best three point shooters in the league
and won the Three Point contest in last season’s All-Star weekend.
However, with LeBron James as competition for the position, Jones never got enough time on the floor last season and by opting for the free agency, he is looking to land in a team where he can be utilized more appropriately.
