Miami Heat’s LeBron James and Rockets’ Kyle Lowry named NBA’s Players of the Week
LeBron James and Kyle Lowry have been named NBA’s Players of the Week for the games played March 14 through March 20.
James plays forward position for the Miami Heat of the Eastern Conference. This was the 31st time in the phenomenal player’s career that he has received the honour: the highest number of times any player has received this award. The award came to the Miami Heat for the 33rd time in their franchise history making it even more special for them. King James has received the award five times since joining Miami in 2010.
The Heat surged through the games that the mercurial player played in the previous week. Recording a 3-1 team record, James averaged 29.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.0 dimes for Miami. The player recorded a 54.7 shooting from the field, hitting 47 of 86 shots, contributing 6 of 15 three-pointers (40 per cent) and had a tremendous free throw shooting of 94.1 per cent, shooting 16 of 17 free hits.
In Heat’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs, the player contributed 21 points, had six boards and blocked two vital shots off the opponents. He played 41 plus minutes as Miami took a whopping 30 point win over the opposition, 110-80.
The 26-year-old scooped out 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds, three dimes and made one steal as Miami failed to post a win against Oklahoma City Thunder, on March 16.
James has tallied four games this season with 40 points. His fourth 40 point contest also came last week as the Heat recorded a 106-85 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The ace had 43 points recording 76.2 per cent shooting, while giving out three assists and grabbing two rebounds in the win.
The player made another accomplishment in the same win, reaching 17,000 points of his career to become the youngest player in the history of NBA to attain that level.
Meanwhile, Houston Rockets’ Lowry received the same honours as Western Conference’s player of the week. This is the first time ever that the player has received this award in his career. The 24-year-old is the second player from the Rockets to receive this award this season after Kevin Martin who received it for the games he played from February 22 through to February 27.
The ace played remarkably and made an average of 19.3 points while shooting 26 for 57 from the field, 9 for 20 from the 3-pointer range and 16 for 17 free throw shooting. Dishing out an average of 7.5 dimes, 7.3 rebounds and 1.25 steals as Houston recorded a picture perfect 4-0 record previous week.
The Rockets defeated Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns of the Western Conference to fight for the eighth position in the playoffs. They also handed Boston Celtics an embarrassing 93-77 loss on March 18.
The player scored the first triple-double of his career in the win against Utah Jazz that gave the Rockets the fuel they needed. He posted 28 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists, recording 3 for 4 three-pointer shooting.
It was his extraordinary performance that helped the Rockets seal a win over the Celtics. He had 20 points and nine assists in the win. He posted 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists while defeating the Charlotte Bobcats, 94-78 on March 16. Opening up the week with a steady pace he pinned 18 points, grabbed six rebounds and pulled out five treys in a win against the Phoenix Suns on March 14.
Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade of Miami Heat were the other nominated players for the Eastern Conference, whereas Kevin Durant of Oklahoma and Samuel Dalembert of Sacramento were other nominees of the Western Conference.
