Miami Hurricanes’ Damien Berry out against Maryland Terrapins
Miami Hurricanes running back Damien Berry will be out of the line-up when his club takes on the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday 6 November.
Miami head coach Randy Shannon stated on Wednesday 3 November that Berry would not be able to play against Maryland because the running back was sore and banged up. The coach would not go into the details of Berry’s injury any further, but did mention that
the youngster had been dealing with it for at least two and a half weeks.
The loss of Berry is a significant one for the Hurricanes, as the club is already without starting quarterback Jacory Harris, who was forced out of the club’s game against the Virginia Cavaliers in week nine because of a concussion. Moreover, the squad has
been forced to go with former fourth-stringer Stephen Morris because of injuries to the other QBs on their depth chart.
Morris’ job was already difficult enough with Berry in the line-up. However, with the club’s leading rusher ruled out, his job becomes much more difficult.
“I’m really excited to get this opportunity to start,” Morris told the Associated Press. “It is what it is. Coach put the confidence in me, he had a lot of trust in me to run the offence. I’m just going to go out there and give my play-makers the ball, see
what they can do with it.”
Besides Berry, the Hurricanes have gone with a team of back-ups, which include Lamar Miller and Mike James.
“We have a lot of great backs,” said Morris. “Damien Berry, obviously, you can’t mimic his ability. But we’ve got Lamar Miller, Mike James, people like that who can step up real well and handle the business.”
So far this season Berry has managed 690 yards and four touchdowns.
