Miami Hurricanes’ Jacory Harris suffers concussion
Miami Hurricanes starting quarterback Jacory Harris suffered a concussion during his team’s game against the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, 30 October.
Harris, sustained the injury in the second quarter of his team’s 24-19 loss. His status for Miami’s upcoming game against Maryland on Saturday, 6 November is in question.
"Jacory’s doing fine right now," head coach Randy Shannon stated. "Our medical team, they’ve done a great job of evaluating and making sure that Jacory is okay, the process of when Jacory’s going to be playing will be up to our medical staff."
Harris was replaced by third string quarterback Spencer Whipple, who was forced into action due to a nagging injury to back-up A.J. Highsmith's left hand.
Whipple struggled, throwing two interceptions in only six attempts and was benched. The club was then forced to go to red shirt Stephen Morris, who completed nine of his 22 pass attempts.
Shannon spoke about the decision to burn Morris’ red shirt after Whipple proved to be a poor replacement.
"It was tough, but we were trying to win the game. A.J. has been having his hand injury that has affected him and we played Spencer, but we felt like now was the time for Stephen Morris to get a shot. He has a little bit stronger arm and we went to him.
He did some nice things in the game. It was great to see him get three touchdowns."
The Hurricanes will start Harris against Maryland if he is healthy, otherwise Morris will get the call.
Miami has had an up-and-down season and currently sit at 5-3 with a 3-2 record against conference opponents, which is good enough for second in the ACC Coastal Division.
So far this season Harris has managed 1,646 yards and 14 touchdowns.
