Miami Hurricanes will start Stephen Morris in week 12
The Miami Hurricanes have announced that Stephen Morris will once again be given the start in week 12 when the club takes on the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Morris started the season as the back-up quarterback, but is set to make his third consecutive start, after Jacory Harris was forced out of the line-up with a concussion. Harris suffered the injury in the club’s game against the Virginia Cavaliers on 30
October and although he has been practising sporadically, he has still not been cleared to return to contact.
Morris has been a strong replacement for Harris going 2-0 in his two starts this campaign. The freshman has been solid, getting a victory over the Maryland Terrapins on 6 November and following it up with a win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in week
11 action.
The strong play of Morris has kept his side in the hunt for top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Coastal Division. The Hurricanes have had an up-and-down season and have not won three games in a row all year. Nevertheless, Miami has managed to go
7-3 with a 5-2 record against conference opponents. Their current record is good enough for second in the Coastal Division, sitting one game behind the Hokies.
The Hurricanes’ match-up against the Hokies is their last conference game of the season and they will need to get a win if they hope to earn a spot in the ACC championship game and possibly an Orange Bowl bid.
The Hokies have two conference games left, and if they lose them both, the Hurricanes will take over top spot, making their week 12 engagement the most important of the season for the Hurricanes.
So far this season, Morris has managed 678 yards and four touchdowns.
