Miami Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik plays it cool regarding Prince Fielder -MLB Update
As the race for acquiring the remaining top agents of the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason continues, Miami Mariners general manager, Jack Zduriencik, was always regarded as being the frontrunner in acquiring free agent slugger, Prince Fielder,
but in recent reports, the GM played it cool when asked what his position was.
While Zduriencik tried to distance himself from signing Fielder any time soon, he was also learnt to have offered a mega 10-year contract to veteran hitter and first baseman, Albert Pujols, who is expected to be deciding on whether to stay with his original
team of 11 seasons, Boston Red Sox.
"I don't want to talk about Prince, but I would say the wording of that is misleading," Zduriencik said. "Because you don't know, on any free agent, I have no clue how many clubs are in on any free agent that we're talking to."
At the moment, it is also unclear how many MLB franchises are after Prince and what type of contract he might be readying himself to for the upcoming season next year.
Being in a deal for Zduriencik is one which would be formally announced in front of the media and according to him speculations are not something he is in for.
"As I've said with all of this stuff, I'd prefer to be low key on any discussion," Zduriencik added. "My style is not to build up a big fanfare. Sometimes these things get legs of their own. To say anybody is a front-runner, I don't know how that would have
come out."
The problem with the rumours were that they were spread by a very high-level source, who was the teams former general manager and current analyst for ESPN, Jim Bowden, announcing it through social media networking website, Twitter.
One thing that can be said for certain is that Zduriencik is planning to make a big move in the upcoming days as the deadline also comes closer for players around the vast free agent market because redesigning the team is only something that can be done
through player signings and changes, which is certainly on his mind.
