Miami Marlins' new ballpark wets fans as retractable roof spills water - MLB Update
Despite a shield against flood and heavy rains working perfectly for continuation of the games in the season, the retractable roof at the Miami Marlins new ballpark has still some issues. The leaks it causes and blockade of sun-shine it renders for the grass
in the outfield are fast becoming an issue of grave concern to the management.
Ground crew has now been directed to the task of taking due measures in this regard while the Miami Marlins head to a long-tour for playing games outside their home park.
As regard to a stagnant growth of the grass, which is hampering the games in a more than one ways, as nurseries sunshine is shadowed using unconventional techniques, a similar kind of treatment has been suggested. This will keep the grass growing at their
natural pace even when roof is closed indefinitely.
As far as an experience is concerned thus far in the season, the retractable roof has lived up to its intended use. It has let the play continue while there was torrential rain-fall outside.
Only trouble it has led to is its panels, from where rain water drops down and kind of exasperates fans at a time when they are immersed in the game.
Marlins president, David Samson calls this business as usual as he feels almost all kinds of ballparks have this issue at the beginning before they are resolved. However he did call upon the need to set things right at the earliest, for which efforts will
go underway soon.
“But you need it to rain and see where [the leaks are]. There have been different types of rains the last few days. Back in the exhibition games there were leaks in the roof track in [Section] 321. [Monday], it wasn’t there. Sunday in right field, there
were drips in Sections 1 and 2 and 201. But I looked during the game [Monday] when it was pouring, and I did not see it dripping,” Samson said.
Marlins’ performance in the season has betrayed fans’ expectations a great deal.
Only reason fans have turned to the ballpark in great numbers this year was a modern retractable roof and ancillary facilities it had on menu. With retractable roof is having its loopholes, prompt actions must be taken to address them appropriately.
