Miami Marlins' players feel betrayed after being traded to Toronto Blue Jays – MLB Update
Miami Marlins’ latest blockbuster deal with the Toronto Blue Jays is bringing more and more interesting facts and more importantly telling the world media as to how this deal has affected the players, especially the ones from the Marlins.
Some of the Marlins’ players, who have been traded to the Blue Jays, were earlier brought into the franchise at the start of the 2012 Major League Baseball season to give slight stability to their club’s dire situation.
However, not only have they been traded to Blue Jays just after one season, but many players involved in the exchange are feeling betrayed by the Marlins’ organisation.
According to some of these players, the Marlins, at start of signing new deals, told them verbally that their relationship with Miami side will be long term and they will feel free to play without any confusion in mind regarding any kind of potential trade.
Though the Marlins signed these players without the “no-trade clause”, but still it was enough for them that the management itself made certain that any trade related matter will be handled with great care.
According to some experts, who have been observing for a while that Marlins are quite disreputable for trading big players, also think that this deal has further put the Marlins in difficult position.
“I spoke to Mark Buehrle. He said he was sorry things didn’t work out, I said, ‘I’m as sorry as you that things didn’t work out,” Team president David Samson.
Darren Heitner, a Miami-based sports and entertainment lawyer, however thinks that the deal with the Blue Jays will bring some huge financial benefits to the Marlins.
He added, “The trade could be seen as strictly a business move, Are the fans disgruntled? Of course. Do they have a right to be disgruntled, subjectively? Yes. At the same time, the owners do not necessarily answer to the individuals that reside in that city.”
However, city commissioner Marc Sarnoff, who was an opponent of the ballpark project, said, “Everybody in the world wants to talk about the Marlins and the fact they’re now a Triple-A team, The Marlins have lost pretty much all credibility with fans.”
Though this deal was a mutual agreement of both franchises but still fans and even players reaction are making things difficult for the Marlins.
The next few weeks will be more critical when both sides will officially introduce their new respective players.
