Miami Marlins’ Dan Jennings comments on Giancarlo Stanton being touted as untouchable - MLB
Assistant General Manager for the Miami Marlins, Dan Jennings, has clarified that no player can be untouchable beyond a certain extent.
If there is a deal on the line, which ensures more than what is given, he has hinted the club will go ahead trading the star outfielder, Giancarlo Stanton.
Earlier the reports surfaced stating that the Marlins can trade Stanton, as they were paying special heed to the interests revealed by some organisations for his acquisition.
Following those reports, disappointment of the fans with the club sunk to a new low.
They were already heartbroken, because stars they could count on for better shows had been snatched away from them and given to the Toronto Blue Jays through a trade.
Stanton is among the few players that they feel can produce outstanding shows and bring some honour for them during the upcoming season.
If he is traded as well, it will be like the last nail in the coffin for the fans.
His exclusion will effectively complete the roster demolition from the part of the Marlins carried out during this offseason.
In order to restrict undue speculations, Jennings has explained that the Marlins are not intentionally looking to trade Stanton.
However, he has signalled if some clubs are willing to offer something that benefits them immensely, they can sign the trade deal.
No player is indispensable until he is not being viewed by other clubs as a potential trade pick worth sacrificing top Minor League prospects for.
“We’ve always been willing to listen… But what we are not going to do is move a player for less than what we value their ability. And Giancarlo Stanton, you’ve got a 22-year-old guy we think going forward has got a chance to be a .300 hitter and (hit) 50
home runs and be a guy who is a big-time run producer. While we are not shopping him, certainly not looking to move him, yeah, if someone knocked on our door and said, ‘Hey, will you guys consider this and this and this,’ you have to listen,” Jennings said.
It will be interesting to see how many teams are interested in Stanton and whether he stays with the Marlins in 2013.
