Miami Marlins’ Hanley Ramirez and Heath Bell rubbish trade rumours - MLB Update
According to a story published in a leading newspaper, the Miami Marlins are planning to trade Hanley Ramirez and Heath Bell to Boston Red Sox in exchange for a prospect and outfielder Carl Crawford. Although both the players have vehemently denied this,
one cannot put aside the rumours altogether.
A couple of days ago, the reports came that the Marlins are active in the trade market. In light of this, one can expect that the issue must have been discussed at some level.
Furthermore, the fact Heath Bell has been a sheer disappointment for the Marlins as a closer in the current season, one cannot be wrong to believe that the club is growing impatient with his existence in the bullpen.
Bell was acquired by Miami during the off-season through a reasonably above par $27 million three year contract.
As he has failed to live up to the reasons why he was included on the roster in the first place, the team may be thinking about sending him somewhere else.
Similarly, the third-baseman Hanley Ramirez has struggled to become what the club had hoped for before start of the season. Unable to step up on the plate and strike productive hits frequently, he has let the manager Ozzie Guillen down.
Since he also binds the club to pay him a hefty amount of money over the course of his contract, options of getting rid of Ramirez may have come under the discussion of the management.
Meanwhile, Ramirez criticises the newspaper that spread the trade rumours about him. The report has been made for the sake of manufacturing news as it has nothing to do with the reality, he maintains.
"A lot of people read the newspaper," said Ramirez. "You guys have to make news any way you guys can do. It doesn’t matter to me. I can’t control that.”
Similarly, Bell denies the story.
"The Lord never surprises me," he said. "Everything is in his power. I love Him. I play for Him and only Him. ...The second half I just decided that’s what I’m going to stick with. Everybody gets to throw this around or that around. They can throw the Lord
around."
Within few days, the facts may come to light. It will be interesting to know which way things fall as the days pass.
