Miami Marlins’ Hanley Ramirez will not be traded, claim sources - MLB Update
A couple of days ago a story featured in a major newspaper which stated that the Miami Marlins are all set to trade the third-baseman Hanley Ramirez and closer Heath Bell to the Boston Red Sox.
As a response to this, the sources close to the team have denied this vehemently now, while criticising the story that was published.
By the time Ramirez was asked about this issue in the first place, he was nearly furious in rubbishing any such thing. He denounced the way reporters fabricate news which has nothing to do with reality. Similarly, Heath Bell had made it clear that there
was no trade talks about him with the Red Sox.
Now as the clarification has come from the club, Hanley and Bell will be content that they will not be asked more questions in this regard.
As a hitter, Ramirez has struggled to meet expectations this year. While he has been strong defensively, he has largely failed to step up for the club on occasions when connecting big hits was needed.
Other than the month of May, his production has been below par. In this respect, when the rumour of his trade came to light in the first place, it did not appear as an unlikely thing to happen. Therefore, the report which was actually false was taken as
true by some quarters.
Similarly, the fact Bell betrayed the club on number of occasions this year and did not bring many saves as a closer, the report did not take much time for the fans to start believing it as an official one.
However, the sources now have confirmed that there are no negotiations going underway in this regard and that neither the Marlins nor Red Sox have spoken on this matter as yet.
“There are no discussions with anybody for anyone,” the source said.
The sources further state that the Marlins are looking forward to improvements from Bell and Ramirez in the upcoming games. The management still has faith in them and believes that they can play an important role in their success in the second half of the
season.
As the Marlins play their remaining games ahead, it will be interesting to note how these players are going to justify the confidence that the management has shown in them.
