Miami Marlins’ Jacob Turner impressive as Ozzie Guillen hints at his retention in rotation-MLB News
Miami Marlins’ pitcher Jacob Turner gives a reason to believe that he can stay in the rotation for some time now during the season.
Although he was unable to provide his side a victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks, he showed enough on the mound that led manager Ozzie Guillen later to call his performance an outstanding one. For the same reason, Guillen has stated that more opportunities
will be offered to Turner.
The fact the Marlins are out of contention suggests that they will be experimenting freely in the remainder of the season. Some of the Minor League prospects may be called and asked to show their talent at the big stage.
The pitchers that the management feels are capable of forming the team’s rotation in the years to come may be permitted to throw under pressure cooker situations so that they can streamline their repertoire. This move will also help the young players to
adjust to the Major League once they come next year.
Keeping this in view, the reason why Turner is going to stay in the rotation and why the management is so comfortable doing so can be understood.
As far as Turner’s performance against the Diamondbacks is concerned, his control was worth the praise as he did not allow any walk throughout the game.
After surrendering a home-run he recovered quickly and struck-out batters. This shows that he can restrain his nerves and can keep his focus right even in the face of an offensive onslaught by the hitters.
Meanwhile, Guillen is all-praise of his outing on the mound against the Diamondbacks. In particular, he is impressed by the way he delivered throws and hoodwinked batters.
"I like the way he threw. Everybody should like what he did. The kid has good stuff and he should get another opportunity to go out there and perform,” Guillen said.
It is hard to make any judgment about Turner and for how long he can serve the team’s rotation is anybody’s guess. Unless he brings consistency in his performances and keeps throwing quality innings for a longer time period, the Marlins’ fans can go slow
in raising expectations from him for the upcoming seasons.
