Miami Marlins’ Joe Espada to manage in Winter League for Atenienses de Manati - MLB Update
Miami Marlins’ third base coach Joe Espada will be managing Atenienses de Manati, which is one of the teams in the soon to be started Winter League in Puerto Rican.
He thinks that the experience gained from there will help him immensely with regard to becoming manager of any Major League club one day.
Espada was the part of the failure endured by the Marlins in the recently concluded regular season. He is among the officials leading the list of possible ousters from the club following the below par performance of the Marlins under their supervision.
Along with the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen, his future with the club is uncertain. There is a great possibility that his dismissal from the club is announced in the off-season.
Espada has expressed his desire to stay in the club for the next season.
However, as the Marlins are extremely disappointed and are looking to improve next season, it is highly likely that they introduce sweeping changes in the off-season.
The Marlins entered into the season with a lot of expectations from the fans.
They believed that with new uniforms, the addition of stars on the roster and the inauguration of the New Marlins ballpark their status as a mediocre Major League club will change.
Even the fans went on to fancy the Marlins winning glory in the season and leading the National League East Division table.
Their hopes shattered when the Marlins could not live up to the expectations.
Against this backdrop, it is hard to ignore the possibility of ousters of some of the officials.
Espada is not oblivious to the likelihood of getting sacked. At the same time, he has expressed his gratitude over being given chances as the third base coach in the last couple of years by the Marlins.
“After a tough season I’m sure they’ll sit down and see what’s best for the Miami Marlins. I’m happy with the opportunity they’ve given me the past three years and hopefully I’ll be back for a fourth year,” Espada said.
Espada will be looking to make the most of the opportunity of managing in the Winter League and enhance his credentials for carrying out the same job at the Major League level.
