Miami Marlins’ Jose Reyes suffers sore hand as he takes hitting streak to 26-games - MLB Update
A sore right hand endangers the Miami Marlins’ shortstop Jose Reyes for continuing his expedition smoothly in the season. Currently, he is the most prolific batter in the line-up in terms of connecting hits as is evident from his 26-games hitting streak.
Reyes is enthusiastic about playing as many games as he can but the pain in the right hand can result in his absence from the line-up at anytime.
The pain actually triggers when Reyes plays with right hand and therefore it can grow severe to such an extent from where it causes a decline in the performance of the shortstop.
Since start of the season, Reyes is trying his best to justify with the whopping $108 million contract that he was awarded by the Marlins during the offseason.
Unable to do so effectively in the first half, he was worried and was in desperate need to start performing the way the management was expecting.
However, the second half of the season witnessed Reyes improving sharply.
Right now, he is passing through his best time of the season. The form which remained elusive to him for most part of the season has been achieved by Reyes. Therefore, missing the line-up due to the injury at this time can be demoralising for him.
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen praises Reyes, awarding him the privilege of stating whether he wants to continue playing for the team or not.
“For the rest of the season, I don't expect that hand to be good," Guillen said. "It might be better, but it's not going to be good. But we'll see how he feels. Reyes is the type of player who has the privilege to tell me when he can play and when he cannot
play. Only a few players can say that here. This kid, he's playing every day and not complaining. He wants to be on the field.”
Guillen has emphasised the point that Reyes’ sore hand will keep troubling him until he goes through a treatment. Therefore, there is a possibility that Reyes may be scratched from the line-up anytime.
At the moment, Reyes will be looking to continue his present success. He will make sure his sore hand does not affect the pace with which he is striking hits in the games.
