Miami Marlins’ Jose Reyes unhappy with his inconsistency on the plate - MLB Update
Short-stop Jose Reyes has not lived up to the expectations which had led the Miami Marlins to have him through free agency, in the first place. He has been an All-Star four times in his career, but in the current season, he has been unimpressive.
He is still searching for the kind of form which can justify with an expensive off-season contract he was awarded by the Marlins.
Hue and cry which is ensuing after he has been unable to become a force for the floundering offence of the Marlins is an obvious consequence. After all, fans expected big things from Jose. Along with the happiness of an inauguration of their new ballpark,
they wished to double their jubilance by clinching something substantial in the season.
For them, Reyes was one of the players to count on for attaining something enviable. Expecting him to keep the offence rampaging right from the start and bring valuable hits. It was hoped that years of disappointment of their offence will come to an end
with his presence.
Much to their frustration, Reyes has been volatile and has been unable to strike hits on a regular basis.
Reyes admits that he has failed to achieve consistency. He is equally disheartened with his fate.
He is aware of the fact as to how he betrayed the offence and did not come to its rescue during times when it needed a saviour.
Furthermore, he is equally conscious about the standing of the club. For him, reaching close to .500 winning percentage is a target for the Marlins. Anything below .500 will make it difficult for them to make their way to a position the organisation aims
to achieve.
"We just are trying to take one game at a time, and finish strong," Reyes said. "Our goal in the first half is to play .500 ball or better. Less than that is not going to be acceptable."
Since the second half of the season is going to be extremely important, Reyes knows that his role will have to be decisive in order to achieve the objective.
"This team is going to need me a lot in the second half to make things happen," Reyes said. "It's coming. There is still a lot of baseball left. But being consistent, that's what I need."
If Jose is going to become an improved hitter in the second half, one can expect a change in his approach. It will be fascinating to see how he fares from now onward.
