Miami Marlins’ Josh Johnson may be traded in offseason, say reports - MLB Update
As per reports, Miami Marlins are likely to unload Josh Johnson from their roster through trade in the offseason.
Boston Red Sox earlier showed interest in acquiring Johnson when the speculations regarding his trade surfaced before the July 31 trade deadline.
The fact the Marlins are looking to launch sweeping changes in order to improve next year may prompt them to take bold decisions.
Johnson has been among their reliable arms over the years but in the current season he struggled to help the team consistently. Prone to injuries, he leaked runs and cost defeats unlike his reputation of spearheading the Marlins’ pitching crew.
Along with the rest of the players, he contributed to the team’s worries in the season.
The fact Johnson can invite interest from various organisations makes him an ideal player given that the Marlins obtain quality prospects in the deal.
In return for Johnson, the Marlins will be looking for promising prospects that can help their team for the upcoming seasons.
There are number of areas where the Marlins struggle. Once they are addressed properly, their performance can improve.
For example offensively they lack depth which means for scoring runs they more often than not rely on a handful of hitters. If they can have the luxury of retaining most of their batters capable of hammering home-runs, they can go a long way in winning great
number of matches in the season.
In the context of the possible trade of Johnson, the Marlins may seek talented batters from the farms of the teams that are willing to conclude the deal.
They will like to make a club as their trading partner which host potential stars and that they feel can turn the Marlins’ fate around in years to come.
Other than Johnson’s trade, there are speculations which say that the Marlins will fire their current manager Ozzie Guillen and will soon announce the name of his successor.
Dismal performance on and off the field in the season has resulted in severe criticism of Guillen.
Most of the fans want immediate ouster of Guillen as they consider him the weakest-link in the team’s failure.
Guillen has put the Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria in a great dilemma. As per the reports, Loria is thinking of sacking him and declaring his replacement.
However, if he does so, he runs the risk of making the Marlins earn a bad reputation among the potential managers of the team.
Officials fully capable of leading the Marlins in the upcoming seasons may be reluctant then to assume the responsibility because they will feel that they can also be fired after one year.
Regardless of how the Marlins treat Guillen, it will be interesting to see as to where Johnson goes after the trade and what prospects they acquire through the deal.
