Miami Marlins’ Ozzie Guillen hits out at players that temporise surgeries - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen is irritated by the fact that the players for the sake of appearing in the matches do not undergo surgery at the right time and as a result they keep suffering frequently.
This is what has affected the progress of the team immensely in the season according to Guillen. Therefore in order to discourage players from resorting to undue tactics for putting off their treatments, Guillen has warned players to resolve their issues
prior to the beginning of Spring Training. In case players defy the instructions, Guillen has used the word surprises to explain the kind of actions that can be taken against them.
Marlins have been marred by scores of injures occurring to their players in the season. While some of the players battled with issues which were not known before, most of them were conscious of their vulnerabilities in advance and yet they did not fix them
beforehand and tried to give an impression that they are fit.
Therefore when they appeared in the games and an ideal team combination struck, the injuries surfaced. As they sat out due to this, they became a major setback for the progress of the team.
Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and remained absent from the team for one month despite the fact that the indispensability of his surgery was known even before the start of the season.
Guillen emphasised the importance of accepting the requirements of the team by the players. Instead of paying heed to what their doctors and agents say, players must accede to the demands of the club.
“If you need to go in, clean it up, do it right now and I’ll see you in spring training,” Guillen said. “... If I’m going to get fired, I’m going to get fired my way. I’m going to get fired because I was bad. … We pay them a lot money, they’ve got to respond
to us — to the Marlins. ... It’s our way, not your agent’s way or your own doctor’s way. It’s the Marlins way, if you don’t like it, talk to your agent.”
The Marlins will be heading to Spring Training after the end of this season and therefore Guillen will be ascertaining that players do not make wrong judgments about the potential injuries that they are vulnerable to.
