Miami Marlins Ozzie Guillen returns from suspension – MLB News
The Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has returned from five-game suspension over his comments on Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
After coming out in dugout, and alter in the game, Guillen said during a press conference saying, "The only thing is how do I guarantee or what do I do for people to believe [in me] again? We're in the process of doing that."
He added, "It's a process that's going to take some time, hopefully less than what I think…We're going to do a lot of good things [in the community], not to buy my credibility. This isn't, 'Let's buy the child a toy so he doesn't cry anymore.' What I want is to walk around Miami with my head high, and for people to know my head is high because I don't feel guilty. I feel remorseful."
Major League Baseball authorities suspended Guillen for five games after he made comments in the media about the long time ruler of Cuba Castro and mentioned his inner respect for him appreciating further his aptitude of being so powerful even he is not physically ruling the country.
Guillen also stated in the media as he admires Castro’s personality who has a charismatic factor in it and which definitely a source of inspiration for many as well.
As soon as these comments were out in public, the Miami’s Cuban American community felt offended and asked the MLB’s top management to suspend Guillen or at-least he should come out in the media and send a sincere apology for his late comments to all Cuban community living in US.
MLB, feeling the sensitivity of the matter, suspended the Miami manager and accepted his apology as well.
Guillen, a former Chicago White Sox manager joined the Marlins in 2012. On contrary to his late comments about Castro, Guillen is considered one of the best managers currently serving in the League.
After playing for almost 15 years in the league for several teams including Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays, Guillen later started his coaching career in 2001 when he became the coach of Montreal Expos and later Florida Marlins.
