Miami Marlins’ Rookie Derek Dietrich learning the ropes in the Major League – MLB news
Life in the early part of one's baseball career can be tough. It takes a lot of efforts to move in the right direction and one has to persevere in order to be successful in the longer run. Derek Dietrich, the rookie second baseman for the Miami Marlins is
learning all about that.
Although the 23-year-old has not had a lot of success and has come across some tough times in his short Major League career, he is learning everyday and has shown some flashes of brilliance which are encouraging signs.
Derek feels that having some good hitters coming ahead of you makes life a lot easier. He also said that he is getting help from the seniors in making the minor adjustments and he looks to give it his all day in day out.
“There are guys from the top to bottom of this lineup who can put runs across and drive guys in,” Dietrich said. “It definitely makes it easier. We've got a lot of good guys in this clubhouse who have been very helpful, and they've helped me with the adjustments,
too. I'm looking to forward to going out there and competing every day.”
Dietrich was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010 in the MLB's Amateur Draft out of the Georgia Institute of Technology in the 2nd round. He made his professional debut the same year for the Hudson Valley Renegades, a short season Class-A team in the New
York Pennsylvania League.
The batter earned his ranks through various Minor League teams and Jacksonville Suns, a Double-A team was his team in early 2013 before breaking into the Major League Baseball. Interestingly, he has so far not played ball at the Triple-A level.
Derek has had issues with over analysing the game which can sometimes lead to problems. He is working on taking it easy and learning along the way, fine tuning his game at the same time.
“I'm working on really relaxing and not trying to do too much,” Dietrich said. “Taking what they are giving to me. Slowly, I'm making the adjustments. I just have to get in there, be ready and not think too much.”
Currently he is batting an even .200 batting average and a .264 on-base percentage. The numbers are not as pretty but he does posses the skill to hit well. Derek has so far hit seven home-runs and has batted in 17 runs, a testament of his abilities.
The Miami Marlins will certainly be hoping that Derek does convert into a long term player and learns quickly. The Miami ballclub has experienced some hard times and they will be hoping that youngsters such as Derek Dietrich can lead the way for the future.
