Miami Marlins’ ace Josh Johnson becomes easy prey for Andres Torres - MLB Update
The New York Mets’ centre fielder Andres Torres has struggled to connect hits and support the team’s offence this year. Despite being given opportunities on the plate, his batting average remains unimpressive in the season. Torres is one of those hitters
that have caused decline in the overall production of the Mets in the last few months.
In light of this, the fact Torres struck hits against Johnson the other day is surprising.
Throughout his career, the centre fielder has been prolific against Johnson. The game on Thursday was another confirmation of it. Despite passing through a rough patch of his career at the moment, he managed to hit a home-run off Johnson’s throw.
So far Torres maintains a .238 batting average. Furthermore, he has just scored two home-runs and 29 RBIs in the season.
In light of this, he can take his impressive show on plate against the Johnson as an opportunity to gain momentum and improve drastically in the upcoming matches.
In this way, he can make up for the below par performances by him earlier in the season.
The Mets are experiencing a fall in their winning percentage in almost every game. Every series they begin is ending up in the increases in the number of losses by them in the season. The fact their offence is the greatest weak-link signals the extent to
which they need hitters like Torres to perform consistently.
Meanwhile, Mets’ manager Terry Collins comes out in praise of Torres, believing that striking hits against someone like Johnson who can hoodwink even the best in the business is a distinction.
“It’s amazing. He hits Josh Johnson,” Terry Collins said. “Not many other people do. He does, and he showed it again today. It was one of the good days he has had, especially from the right side. That’s where he had been struggling.”
Meanwhile, Torres speaks about his ability to strike Johnson and the impressive record that he boasts against him.
“I didn’t know that honestly,” Torres said. “Now I know that I am 5-for-5. He is a great pitcher. I just try to be patient and get the [bat] head out and see how it’s going,”
Torres will be trying to achieve the same level of comfort against the other pitchers as opposed to having a great record against only Johnson.
