Miami Marlins agree to a one-year worth $2.75 million deal with Placido Polanco-MLB Update
Miami Marlins announce the name of their third baseman for 2013 season as they sign Placido Polanco for one-year.
It is the first major step by the Marlins to reconstruct their roster since trading a number of players to the Toronto Blue Jays in the last month.
Ever since Jose Reyes and other star players removed from roster, the Marlins' fans are extremely disappointed. They are against the cost cutting measures that the club is taking.
They are nearly hopeless about chances of their success in the upcoming season.
Except for Giancarlo Stanton, there is nobody to look forward to for them in the team.
Inclusion of Polanco can somehow reduce their worries. At-least, they have someone in the line-up now, who can make them expect something outstanding.
Polanco was an All-Star in 2011. However, at the moment, he is going through a decline.
He was far from his potential during the last season, while he played for the Philadelphia Phillies. Except for a first few months, he was below par for the rest of the season.
His injury plagued body was the reason why he could not produce consistent hits.
The Phillies were so disappointed by him that they did not pursue Polanco in the offseason as they declined option.
As a result, Polanco was left to seek a new organisation, where he can carry on his expedition as a major leaguer.
Fortunately, he has found the one in the form of the Marlins.
However, the Marlins cannot be an ideal place for him for various reasons.
After all that happened with their manager and players, there is hardly any free agent that cherishes the idea of playing for them.
Against this backdrop, it is not difficult to assume Polanco has taken the Marlins as a platform to restart his journey after it was halted by the injury.
Instead of viewing the Marlins as his permanent place, he can search for some other club following an incredible rebound in the upcoming season.
Right now, Polanco will be focusing on Spring Training and make sure he returns to top-notch form before the upcoming season.
