Miami Marlins beat Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 – MLB News
Miami Marlins on Thursday, July 5, maintained their grip on the game to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0. The Marlins who were 2-1 in the four-game series came back to draw the series. The win could not have possibly without the tremendous pitching spell of Mark Buehrle.
The Miami Marlins' starter had an impressive 7.2 inning spell, allowing only six hits to withhold the Milwaukee Brewers' hitters. He had eight strike-outs to his credit with 3.25 ERA to end his pitching spell.
Michael Fiers who had come to replace Shaun Marcum – suffering from wrist injury for a month, pitched well but could not quite get the backing support from the offence. He allowed two runs and seven hits in his 7.1 inning spell.
"Everything kind of looks like a fastball," Fiers said of Buehrle's pitching. "That's why he's one of the best pitchers. To get a couple runs off him is big, but he had one of those games today."
Mark Buehrle, on the other hand, attributed the team’s victory to the handiwork of the offence that scored at the right time to add to the team’s lead and ultimate win.
"Maybe they're tired of swinging the bats so much and getting runs," he said. "We scored just a few more than they did."
Carlos Lee had two hits to his credit, scoring a run in his four at-bats followed by Jose Reyes who had 2-for-5.
"That's the way I play the game," Lee said. "I always enjoy my time. Have fun, and like I say, try my best."
Marlins scored a run in the fourth doubling it in the eighth and added two more in the ninth to conclude the team with a 4-0 win and drawing the four-game series level 2-2.
The Milwaukee Brewers now sit fourth in the Division table with the loss. Serious questions over their ability to edge past the rival teams with the kind of confidence and winning spirit that were visible last year when they effortlessly beat even the best of teams in the Division to qualify for the post-season are clearly evident.
