Miami Marlins beat Minnesota Twins 4-2 at Marlins Park – MLB news
Miami Marlins beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Marlins Park with over 14000 fans witnessing the game in the stadium.
It was a game where both teams committed a number of fielding errors and no team was clearly ahead till the very end. The Marlins were ahead after a two-run sixth innings though Twins did threat a late comeback, it could not materialise.
It was a good pitching effort by Jose Fernandez as he threw down five innings, surrendering just a single run on four hits. The good work was continued by A.J. Ramos once Jose exited the game. Steve Cishek recorded his 13th save of the season.
Mike Redmond, the manager of the Marlins, was quite impressed by the efforts made by the starting pitcher. He felt that despite having a tough time in the middle, Jose was able to throw down an excellent game for his team. The manager admired him for being
able to make the big pitches right when it really mattered.
“He kept us in it,” Redmond said. “You think about a young kid who didn't really have his best stuff, but that was pretty impressive out there. He made pitches when he really needed to, and that's the kind of guy he is.”
Jose himself was happy to come out without much runs given away. He said that that he likes to compete on the ballpark. The 20-year-old, who has a 4-4 win-loss record the season thus far, felt that he did struggle in the game but was able to get over the
line for his team which eventually won. For him, that was the most important part of the ballgame.
“I like to go out there and compete and do the best I can,” Fernandez said.
Some good hitting was on display by the Marlins especially by Marcell Ozuna and Derek Dietrich who both drove in runs at crucial times. Being a low relatively low scoring game, the magnitude of their timely runs was huge. The batting efforts were certainly
helped by no less than three errors in the field by the Twins.
Marcell Ozuna was pleased after the game was won and said that the whole team was playing its part which was adding up and helping the team in winning. He sees the team improving its performance in this manner.
“Everyone is putting in their own little piece, and we are playing together and that's helped us win games,” Ozuna said. “That's every player and team's goal. We are playing excellent right now.”
The Marlins continue to improve their performance at this point in time. They will need to continue the good work to post a decent overall show when the season comes to an end in 2013.
