Miami Marlins beat Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in regular season clash - MLB Update
Centre-fielder Emilio Bonifacio hit thrice in four at-bats as he helped the Miami Marlins to a 6-2 win against Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 9, 2012.
Finally Marlins see their offence lifting them in the season. From Jose Reyes to Hanley Ramirez and Bonifacio to Gaby Sanchez, they witnessed hits coming off.
The fact those were against the quality pitchers like Cole Hamels and David Herndon signals even a bigger impact they are going to make in the season.
Slowly Reyes is reaching the level he is so familiar with. Not being splashy on the plate, he is instead relying on run manufacturing techniques. In four at-bats, he hit twice and completed one run.
Third baseman, Ramirez, was equally great, hitting once, contributing one RBI and adding one run.
Starter Anibal Sanchez was a real sigh of relief for the Marlins. Concerned over his souring shoulder, manager never expected him to come with something so incredible in the game.
Not only did he pitch little more than six innings tirelessly, he struck-out four and gave up just two runs.
"I was worried because he missed a start in spring training," Guillen said. "He threw the ball well."
Phillies were unable to become the kind of formidable offence they will be in the presence of two of their injured hitters, Ryan Howard and Chase Utley.
Managing just six hits in 33 at-bats, even the veteran Shane Victorino did not provide the kind of hits needed.
One hit in three at-bats and one run Victorino completed for the Phillies were not to be sufficient when from Marlins’ side, Omar Infante will be striking two homers in four at-bats.
"We're not hitting the ball hard enough to score runs," said Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel.
Despite external issues regarding their manager’s remarks about Fidel Castro surfacing in the game, Marlins did extremely well.
The game left lot of positives for the Marlins. A massive improvement from the last few games, they will look to build on from there and record as many victories as they can at the start.
For the moment, one can fancy that results of the huge off-season spending they resorted to have started coming forth.
