Miami Marlins blank Washington Nationals 8-0 as Ricky Nolasco throws complete shut-out game-MLB
Starter Ricky Nolasco throws a complete shut-out game as the Miami Marlins rout the Washington Nationals 8-0 in the last match of the three game series at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C. on September 9, 2012.
The Nationals were beaten out-and-out by Nolasco as he kept their batters scoreless throughout the match. What makes his performance even more impressive is the fact the same offence that he outwitted on Sunday has been ruthless against the pitchers in the
last couple of weeks.
Blocking the likes of Michael Morse, Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth is not easy for any pitcher.
The notion which was gaining strength that the Nationals’ batters are infallible has been tainted by Nolasco now. With the way Washington posted substantial number of runs on the scoreboard during the games played in the last few weeks, Sunday's match can
easily be taken as an exception.
In contrast to Washington, the Marlins were out of the ordinary on Sunday. As they struck 14 hits in the game, their performance was in stark contrast to the ones they have put up in most of the matches in the season.
Miami’s right fielder Giancarlo Stanton smacked a home-run in the match. He was 2-for-4. Their third baseman Greg Dobbs connected three hits in four at-bats.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen is all-praise for Stanton. In particular he is impressed by his ability to strike home-runs. Whenever Stanton is at the plate, there is always a possibility that he will hammer the home-run.
"This kid is a special one. Every time he makes contact he's gonna hit the ball hard," Guillen said. "When he knows how to have an idea about what (pitchers are) doing to him, it's going to be great to see him at the plate. There's no doubt this kid's gonna
hit."
Nolasco did not start the season well. Along with the performance of the whole team, he declined in terms of winning games for the Marlins. In light of this, his impeccable show on the mound in the match will be encouraging for him.
"I'm just trying to finish strong. I felt pretty good today," Nolasco said. "This type of offense will put runs up against you quick.”
Washington will take the defeat on Sunday as an exception and will make sure they return to their usual winning ways soon.
