Miami Marlins could bring Detroit Tigers' hitting Coach Lloyd McClendon as manager – MLB Update
It was expected when Miami Marlins fired their manager Ozzie Guillen after they showed one of the worst performances in their baseball history.
However, no one expected that the Marlins management will bring a new manager that soon. Though it is still not confirmed that Detroit Tigers' current hitting coach Lloyd McClendon will be managing the Marlins next season, but still this is a possibility that he will be managing the team in 2013.
Earlier news broke that some Marlins’ top executives have met with the former player and current Tigers' hitting coach but now sources are saying that both sides have not met yet but there is possibility that soon this potential meeting will be disclosed in the media.
“The way I’d answer this question is that we’ve had some conversations for a lengthy period about making some possible transitions with responsibilities, nothing reflective upon what’s happened in the year past, I’m not in a position to address that this point,” Tigers' president, CEO and general manager Dave Dombrowski said.
On the other hand, this is also an interesting factor that if Lloyd decided to leave the Tigers and received a lucrative deal to join the Marlins, then what will be the reaction of Detroit's current manager Jim Leyland.
Leyland has earlier signed a one year extension with the Tigers and showed his confidence on the entire coaching staff of Detroit.
In response to Leyland’s confidence, the Tigers front office also assured him of the same coaching team that made possible for the Tigers to play in this year’s World Series.
“All coaches are coming back next year, but there could be a situation where we may redirect a couple things. I’m not really ready to expound on that just yet. I think there’s a possibility we could rearrange the furniture just little bit. But everybody is going to be back, No. It has nothing to do with that,” Leyland said.
The next few days will be critical when Lloyd will be making a crucial decision on his future as whether he should be joining the Marlins or stay in the Tigers and learn some more managing skills from Jim Leyland.
