Miami Marlins edge out New York Mets 4-3 as Donovan Solano singles in eleventh - MLB Update
Second baseman Donovan Solano singles in the bottom of the eleventh and helps Miami Marlins go past New York Mets 4-3 at Marlins Park, Miami on October 2, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
Both the sides started slowly and remained scoreless until the completion of the third inning.
Marlins then surged to a one run lead in the fourth inning. Before the Mets could bounce back and cut in to it, they substantiated it further by putting two more runs in a span of the next two innings.
Miami were almost set to celebrate their victory before they were thwarted by the eighth inning run-rampage coming off from the Mets.
By scoring three runs in one inning alone, New York tied the score making the game to enter into additional innings.
During the extra innings, under pressure finding hits and scoring runs was extremely difficult for both teams.
Solano had something special to offer. He stood up and manipulated for a single which led the base-runner aboard, handing the Marlins a stunning victory in the game as a result.
As far as the pitchers were concerned, Jacob Turner threw little more than seven innings. He struck-out four and gave up just one run. However, win was not accorded to him. Instead relief pitcher Chad Gaudin claimed it by finishing the eleventh inning scoreless.
Turner receives attention from the manager Ozzie Guillen after he finished an incredible spell of innings on Tuesday. He is going to become a reliable arm for the team in the upcoming season.
"He's throwing the ball well," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He's got a shot to make the ballclub next year."
Mets’ manager Terry Collins has talked about pain that his starter R.A. Dickey felt in the match. Despite not feeling well, he struck-out eight in six innings.
"It hasn't bothered him," Collins said. "Today he said it felt fine, then he aggravated it in the second inning. He said he still could go pitch. You could tell in the fifth he had a limp to his gait. He said, 'I'll give you as much as I can give you.'"
The Marlins will be hoping that their non-regular players keep performing well and become permanent member of the side in the next season.
