Miami Marlins edge past Colorado Rockies 7-6 as Heath Bell registers a save - MLB Update
Starter Ricky Nolasco records his fifth win of the season as the Miami Marlins edge past the Colorado Rockies 7-6 at Marlins Park, Miami, FL on May 22, 2012, in second game of the three match series.
Right in the first inning, the Marlins gave up three runs. As a result, the Rockies got off to a great start. The Marlins responded immediately.
By managing two runs in the bottom of first, the Marlins bridged the deficit to one run.
Afterwards, three more runs were added in the third inning.
Giancarlo Stanton had another great time on plate. After hitting a mammoth homer in the last game, he faced five at-bats and struck two hits on Tuesday. His slugging percentage stands at .523.
Even as Omar Infante misses the line-up and leaves the Marlins with a shortage of hitters, they managed to connect 12 hits in the game.
Third baseman Hanley Ramirez will love to continue the way he is going at the moment. While at the start of the season he struggled with his composure on the plate, since last week, he is hitting consistently.
He went 3-for-5 and contributed two RBIs as his on-base percentage has improved to .323.
Nolasco started for the Marlins. Not the best of his outings in the season, he still managed to strike-out six. He gave up four runs in six innings.
"We're starting to swing the bats more," Nolasco said. "It's a lot easier to pitch when you have confidence your hitters are going to give you some runs. Everything is kind of clicking for us now."
Heath Bell was a stand-out pick from the Marlins’ bullpen.
In an attempt to wash off miseries endured during initial few weeks of the season, he registered his seventh save. Scoreless ninth he threw was so crucial to the ultimate outcome of the game that leakage of just one run will have tied and rendered the game
open for either side.
Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen will be happy the way club won two games in a row.
As the series has been clinched, the Marlins will look to pin last nail in the Rockies’ coffin by winning the last remaining game.
