Miami Marlins edged out 12-13 by Milwaukee Brewers in high scoring game - MLB Update
Relief pitcher Heath Bell gives up a two-run homer in the tenth costing the Miami Marlins a 12-13 defeat against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park, Milwaukee, in the second game of the four match series on July 3, 2012.
A sensational end of the game was not the only moment which kept the fans fascinated. Right from the start, it featured attacks being initiated from both sides.
Tantalising changes of innings meant that at no point of the game one could be fairly certain about the winner. End of every next inning was changing perceptions about who is going to be victorious.
Marlins surged to a lead in the first before it was blown by the Brewers in the bottom of the third. Afterward, a run-rampage seen by the Brewers from their hitters in the sixth was enough to make one establish certainty of the winner.
While in the following inning Marlins replied with three runs, the Brewers remained far ahead in their lead.
However, six runs coming off the eighth from the Marlins unsettled the Brewers. As a result, the score was tied and outcome was to be decided in the tenth.
Short-stop Jose Reyes finally shines on the plate. It was one of those moments the Marlins had expected Jose to experience all through the season.
He struck three hits in six at-bats. He also thrashed a homer in the tenth, which put the Marlins ahead of the Brewers for a while, before the latter added two runs in the same inning and reclaimed their lead.
Starter Anibal Sanchez threw five innings for the Marlins. He allowed six runs and gave up 11 hits. A fewer number of innings by him led the manager to turn to the bullpen early. Manager Ozzie Guillen used many relief pitchers on Wednesday.
Bell was the last one who assumed the mound. However, unable to restrain his nerves and keep control under pressure, he conceded a home-run and lost the game for the team.
Guillen spoke about an unexpected defeat they were hammered on Wednesday.
"Obviously, we were ready to celebrate, but we got punched in the stomach," Ozzie Guillen said.
Despite the loss, the Marlins found many positives in the game. Meltdown by relief pitchers apart, their offence exhibited strength. They will like to see it achieving consistency and keeping the momentum in the games to come.
