Miami Marlins experience 8-10 defeat against New York Yankees - MLB Update
In their first high scoring game in Spring Training, Miami Marlins lose 8-10 to New York Yankees at the new Marlins Park in Miami, Florida on April 1, 2012 in their Grapefruit League clash, as their starter Ricky Nolasco gives up seven earned runs.
Marlins will enter the regular season with a strong rotation, as is confirmed by their Spring Training wins, which largely saw their pitchers contributing more than batters. However today’s game was different. Their hitters scored but pitchers had a rough
time on the mound.
All in all, most of the runs Marlins gave up came off Nolasco’s pitches as relievers went on to restore pride somehow before closer, Chad Gaudin, allowed two runs in the last inning.
Jose Reyes, Marlins’ shortstop, faced four at-bats and connected one hit on which he got one RBI. Third baseman, Hanley Ramirez, who held shortstop position since 2006 until Reyes signed a contract with the club, drew one walk, one hit and one RBI in two
at-bats.
So far Ramirez is having a better spring season compared to him with .459 OBP, higher than Reyes’ .328.
As it was a first exhibition game between two Major League clubs at Marlins New ballpark, fans were extra excited in the game. Their excitement experienced a setback when jumping fish on their newly-built sculpture did not illuminate at the strike of the
homers by the Marlins, as was fantasised by them.
Reports clarified later that it had been scheduled to work during the season.
Yankees’ starter CC Sabathia was not as accurate as he may have liked with his throws. In four innings he pitched, he gave up three earned runs, enough to demoralise a player just before the start of the season.
However, Sabathia was not concerned with his fastball command and expressed his focus on Friday when he will be starting for the Yankees.
"Always the biggest issue for me is my fastball command," Sabathia said. "It wasn't there today, but there's no reason for me to feel like it won't be there Friday."
Gaby Sanchez hit a solo homer run for the Marlins in the game.
Even if Marlins lost the game, they showed their season preparations. Unlike their previous games, the offense also stood up in the game and therefore they have every reason to feel confident in their first regular season game.
