Miami Marlins face 2-3 defeat against San Francisco Giants at Marlins Park - MLB Update
Ricky Nolasco gives up three runs as starter and the Miami Marlins are defeated 2-3 by San Francisco Giants in fourth game of the four match series at Marlins Park, Miami, FL on May 27, 2012.
Low scoring game was wide-open for either team. Beyond the sixth, Marlins had a chance to bounce back and win. At the start of the bottom of the seventh, the Marlins were trailing by two runs.
Giants’ reliever, Sergio Romo was perfect. He did not allow the Marlins surge to become a run-rampage during the penultimate innings of the game.
Nolasco threw seven innings as he conceded five hits and struck-out two. Three runs he allowed actually caused the Marlins’ loss.
Scoreless two innings their relievers threw afterwards, were of no significance as the Marlins' offence failed to capitalise.
Giants’ left fielder, Melky Cabrera showed tremendous amount of aggression on the plate. Thrashing a home run off Nolasco in the first, he put him under pressure right away.
He did not miss any of his at-bats and connected four hits. He reached home plate for the Giants, for all three runs.
Nolasco was all-praise of his batting prowess. Anywhere ball hit the strike-zone, Nolasco said, his bat was right there and making connections.
"He's just hitting everything right now, so there's not much you can do," Nolasco said. "You make good pitches on him and he still finds a hole. Not fun seeing him when he's hot like that."
Perfection Melky showed inspired the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen. Whatever changes pitchers can bring in their throws, he has all what it takes to send them to distance, he maintained.
"Melky was a one-man show this week," Guillen said. "He hit everything we threw -- slider, curveball, changeup, and fastball."
Witnessing another bad day for offence will go down hard on the manager. Guillen realises the importance of managing reasonable number of hits to win the game.
To this end, he had brought changes in the line-up. He will be disappointed as results are not coming frequently.
Striking hits under-pressure situation has been rare from the Marlins’ batters.
In this respect, the manager will look to prepare hitters accordingly and make sure they play to their potential under all circumstances.
