Miami Marlins face 3-5 defeat against Boston Red Sox in Spring Training - MLB Update
Miami Marlins lose 3-5 to Boston Red Sox in a game that went into the 10th inning in the quest for a winner at JetBlue Park Fenway South in Lee County, Florida during their Spring Training Grapefruit League game on March 12, 2012. Marlins much-hyped
shortstop Jose Reyes remained hitless again on plate while facing four at-bats.
It was a close game with both sides equally poised to claim victory at any time. Interest in the game reached a climax when at the end of the eighth inning the Red Sox were just around the corner to celebrate their victory before one of the Marlins completed
a run and put the game on a tie until the ninth. However in an extra 10th inning, Marlins lost momentum and gave two runs in one inning, effectively loser the game.
Reyes is one of top 2012 prospects for Marlins and for him going hitless in two games first against Detroit Tigers and second today is not a good sign. As for Marlins’ starter Ricky Nolasco, going for three runs and giving three hits in over three innings
pitched do not explain the credentials side expects him to exhibit.
If it was not for two-run homer coming off Pedro Ciriaco, Red Sox shortstop, the game would be a tie even at the end of 10th. Apart from him, Red Sox must be pleased with their starter Josh Beckett who never allowed Marlins to have easy runs and while he
spent four gruelling innings on the mound, he gave two walks, conceded one run and was hit just twice.
Game turned to an entirely different tone, when relatively fickle Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen complained of a foul ball to umpire, on which he was ejected later.
"What's the difference between spring training and during the season? I do my job. The umpires have to do their job. The players have to do their jobs. My job is to protect the players. I don't see this game different than other games," he said.
In an attempt to taunt Guillen after he was tossed by umpire, Boston Manager Bobby Valentine gave him a wave goodbye while trying to steal his attention.
All in all Marlins are having a reasonable decent Spring Training as they enjoy a relatively better PCT so far of .625. They will be hoping to see their batters start performing rather consistently in their remaining games.
