Miami Marlins face 4-7 defeat against Houston Astros in Spring Training - MLB Update
Anibal Sanchez concedes six earned runs as the Miami Marlins lose to Houston Astros 4-7 at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida during their Spring Training Grapefruit League game on March 19, 2012.
Jose Reyes gave a glimpse of what he actually is and as he managed three hits in four at-bats, Marlins’ manager, Ozzie Guillen, was extremely happy the way he is returning back to his best.
In his initial few games, Reyes looked clueless, unable to find hits and stuttering for stealing singles. However in today’s game he was completely different, stealing singles, showing his usual audacity to fielders and above all connecting hits easily.
Happy inside though, the manager wants him to observe caution in running on the bases as it is just Spring Training and to stay away from vulnerabilities.
"I was surprised," Guillen said. "I don't want him to run too much in spring training but I think we're not hitting well in the last couple of days and he wants to make things happen."
Marlins’ first baseman, Gaby Sanchez brought two RBIs and managed one hit in three at-bats.
Although Marlins kept adding runs throughout nine innings, the game had effectively turned in favour of Astros after the third inning. As Astros added six runs in one inning alone, later resistance by Marlins proved only a consolation in their defeat.
For Marlins, it is not hard to find a scapegoat after the defeat as their starter, Sanchez alone gave up six runs in over two innings he pitched. The fact all of his runs were earned meaning they were more the result of his poor pitches than any fielding
errors goes on to substantiate a blame on him for the loss.
"He could have had a better outing if he made the right pitch," Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen said. "He couldn't finish a lot of hits with two strikes. He left a couple of balls around the plate. I think today was not a pretty game.”
Marlins are one of those teams that are having a great time in Spring Training and as a result many believe are going to put up terrific performance in the season. Today’s defeat however is going to hurt them a little bit and thus they will be looking forward
to come back to winning ways soon.
