Miami Marlins’ fans show little interest in “charity baseball camp” organised by Tom Koehler – MLB
Charity baseball camp, which the Miami Marlins’ pitcher Tom Koehler is going to organise in the next couple of days for collecting funds for Hurricane Sandy’s victims will most probably be cancelled if not many people show interest in it.
The event is supposed to take place in the Marlins new ballpark.
So far the fans are least enthusiastic about the ceremony, supposedly because they are extremely disappointed by the recent fire sale by the club. Not happy with the way the officials are running the Marlins, most of the fans have distanced themselves from
their activities.
Koehler is aware of the possibility that the recent trade of quality players by Miami might be the reason why fans are not signing up for his event.
According to him, their disinterest can lead one to believe that they have forgotten the duty toward humanity in fury against officials of the club.
Koehler is embarrassed from the inside of his heart, because he feels that people should treat the club and miseries of the Sandy victims separate. By not participating in the camp, they are worsening the already miserable condition of affected people.
Koehler is hoping that a better sense prevails sooner than later and that people begin registering for the event.
In case not many individuals confirm their presence there on the day, the camp will prove counter-productive in the form of costing an administrative expense unnecessarily.
In order to make donors realise the need of supporting victims at this time, Koehler has stated that it is really difficult for the people to live under the cold and spend their normal life.
“Hopefully people realize they have an opportunity to do something really good for a lot of people. There are people up in the Northeast, it’s winter now, so it’s cold and they’re still without power,” said Koehler.
If fans are venting their anger against the officials by staying away from such social activities, it is condemnable, says Koehler.
“I don’t know if people are really that aggravated that they’re going to take it to that extent. It’s a shame if they are,’’ Koehler explained.
It will be hoped that the event goes as per the plan and a huge amount of funds are collected for the victims of Sandy.
