Miami Marlins go past Colorado Rockies 6-5 as Giancarlo Stanton strikes home run - MLB Update
The right fielder Giancarlo Stanton and the catcher John Buck help the Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 6-5 at Coors Field, Denver, Colorado on August 17, 2012 in the second game of the four match series.
The Marlins rose to lead in the first inning. However, such a feeble lead was always prone to be blown. Therefore, it was no surprise when the Rockies added two runs in the fourth and went ahead of Miami.
While the Marlins fought back immediately afterward with three runs in the top of the fifth, it did not take much time for the Rockies to restore their lead.
Thanks to the timely home-run by Stanton and the double by Buck, the Marlins won the game. The Rockies on the other hand despite managing 12 hits in the match failed to post sufficient number of runs on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, the starter Wade LeBlanc earned the win in spite of the fact that he leaked nine hits and gave up five runs on Friday. If it was not for the scoreless innings of the relievers, he will have suffered the loss.
While generally Miami's bullpen is prone to late-innings meltdowns, on Friday it was not the case. Carlos Zambrano finished a scoreless spell of little more than one inning. Similarly, Heath Bell who is generally seen allowing runs and costing defeats pitched
one scoreless inning.
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen comments on the way Stanton has been lifting the offence of the team in the season. Whenever Stanton steps on the plate, regardless of the kind of pitchers he faces, he can any time slam mammoth hits.
"This kid, every time he's at the plate he's in scoring position, especially this park," Ozzie Guillen said. "He's got so much potential, so much power, it doesn't who's in there, you always got the feeling the game can turn around when he's at the plate."
LeBlanc is extremely pleased after winning the game.
"Any time you can get out of this place with a win it's a good night," LeBlanc said. "It's a tough place to pitch."
The Marlins will be looking to work out issues that can affect their momentum before playing the next two games in the series.
