Miami Marlins hand Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez to Detroit Tigers - MLB Update
Miami Marlins finally realise that their chances for winning this year are minimal as they acquire two Minor Leaguers and a starting pitcher Jacob Turner from the Detroit Tigers by lending second baseman Omar Infante and pitcher Anibal Sanchez.
Infante has made immense contribution in the season offensively. Along with the right-fielder Giancarlo Stanton, he has been one of the few bright spots for the Marlins.
His ability to strike home-runs and accelerate activity on bases can benefit Tigers in many ways. The fact the Tigers have enjoyed huge success this year, addition of Infante in the offence can supplement the strength and can make it easier for them to carry
their quest forward.
In light of the fact that Infante maintains a respectable presence in the Marlins’ line-up gives an indication that the club have quit the chase for glory this season. Losing such a hitter at this point in time can easily make one believe that they have
accepted the fact that their contention for making it to the post-season cannot be successful.
Furthermore, the same kind of impression can be taken in the case of Sanchez by a general observer. Sanchez is a quality hurler and if the Marlins reach heights in the season, he will more likely be one of the main contributors.
Therefore, as the organisation now has handed him to the Tigers, team officials' hope that the players get them to a prestigious position in the season can be gauged.
Larry Beinfest, Marlins’ President, acknowledges that the team has shown nothing that can suggest that they will put up something out of the ordinary in the season. He also expresses his worry over being unable to draw the kind of results that were fancied
from the team at the start.
"We're disappointed in the club's performance," Beinfest said. "We made our moves this winter, came out of spring training, and everyone's expectations, and rightfully so, that we'd be in a different position today. The current team is really not in contention,
at a tenuous spot at best, and I think it was time to restructure."
Meanwhile, the Tigers will be taking their solidified roster now as an opportunity to win the World Series Championship title. It will be interesting to note how much contribution Sanchez and Infante can make in this regard.
