Miami Marlins have stock of Minor League options for 2013 season, says Larry Beinfest-MLB Update
Responding to the lack of options for the Miami Marlins for their 2013 Major League regular season, President of Baseball Operations, Larry Beinfest has hinted that he can pick out players from the Minor League and give them some chances.
To make the team more competitive, non-tenders and some left over inventory in the free agent market can be included on the roster, says Larry Beinfest.
Beinfest and the rest of the top officials of the club came under thorough scrutiny of the fans and the experts alike after the fire sale that involved shipment of star players from the Marlins to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Owner of the club, Jeffrey Loria was heavily criticised for being greedy and unconcerned about the sentiments of the fans.
His attempt to cut payroll by removing players from the roster was seen as reflection of his profit-motive intent as opposed to sincere development of the club.
What is even more worrisome for the fans is that the money saved by trading players has not been utilised by him yet, giving further indication about his lack of will for preparing a formidable baseball unit for 2013 season.
Instead of hiring new players, he is letting the offseason pass quietly. Until recently, none of the team officials talked about any possibility that valuable additions on the roster will be made by the club during the offseason.
As a rare solace for the disgruntled fans, Beinfest has given signals of possible new acquisitions within the next couple of weeks. Either through Minor League or by buying non-tenders, some sort of adjustment on their roster can be expected now.
"I don't think the ballpark is really a restraint," Beinfest said. "I think that's been blown out of proportion. We do have some inventory, if we decide to move it, at the minor league level. There may be some free agents that haven't been on our radar that
maybe we need to look at, and maybe there will be some non-tenders. We have lists and we've been on the phone."
Fans will be hoping that Beinfest lives up to his words and brings in new players on the roster so that they could look forward to something respectable coming off from the team next year.
