Miami Marlins humiliated 2-8 by Atlanta Braves as Mark Buehrle leaks runs - MLB Update
The starter Mark Buehrle gives up six runs in little more than four innings as the Miami Marlins are routed by the Atlanta Braves 2-8 at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia in the first game of the four match series on July 30, 2012.
Poor show from the starter made it difficult for the Marlins to come back into the game. The number of runs that Buehrle leaked meant that Miami's struggling offence will surrender cheaply.
Miami’s hitters are lacking the vigour which is required to pull off victories from the situations where the team is trailing.
On Monday, as they witnessed Braves leaping to the lead, they failed to come close to it, let alone beating it.
Meanwhile, the Braves started off slowly, picking up the pace only in the fifth by adding four runs.
Atlanta’s right fielder Jason Heyward was the most successful hitter in the line-up. He struck two hits in five at-bats as he also slammed a home-run.
Similarly, Freddie Freeman made an important contribution by slamming three hits in four at-bats.
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen will be troubled by the fact that the starter that they acquired in the off-season as part of their spending spree has struggled to meet the expectations in the season. Buehrle looked mediocre on the mound as the
Braves drew easy hits from his throws on Monday.
"I'm just falling behind too much and having to make pitches in tough spots behind in the count, in hitters' counts," Buehrle said. "It's just one of those stretches right now."
Carlos Zambrano pitched as a reliever for the Marlins after being shifted to the bullpen from the rotation. He was unable to show improvements as he gave up one run and two hits in little more than one inning.
After seeing the team putting up such a dismal show in the field, Marlins’ manager Guillen took a heavy swipe at the players, terming their performance below the Major League standard.
"When I see games like that day in and day out, I think how the h**l are these guys still in the big leagues?" Guillen said.
The next game will be a challenge for the Marlins. There are still three matches remaining, therefore they will be trying to bounce back and keep the Braves from running away with the series victory.
