Miami Marlins humiliated by Los Angeles Dodgers 2-8 as Josh Johnson struggles - MLB Update
Starter Josh Johnson gives up two home-runs as the Miami Marlins are humiliated by the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-8 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California on August 25, 2012 in the second game of their three match series.
Marlins were undone by the three-run home-run by the Dodgers’ recently acquired first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. While they managed two runs in first two innings, that score proved too little in front of the sluggers featuring the Los Angeles’ line-up.
The likes of Gonzalez and the third baseman Luis Cruz made the most of the weaknesses present in the Marlins’ pitching department and struck 16 hits in the game.
Gonzalez’s stand out contribution is praiseworthy in light of the fact that he played the game nearly as soon as the trade between the Boston Red Sox and the Dodgers took place and he had to travel all the way to Los Angeles through a charter plane. Far
from showing signs of fatigue and therefore taking some time to adjust, he struck a home-run and played a decisive role in the team’s victory.
Meanwhile Johnson bore the brunt of the onslaught launched by the Dodgers on Saturday. He threw just three innings and gave up six runs. Furthermore in a span of just a few innings, he was struck for 10 hits in the game. He walked one and struck-out three.
Johnson acknowledges that he struggled to contain runs. Although he was feeling great on the mound, he just failed to stop the Dodgers’ formidable line-up from fetching runs out off his throws.
"I was terrible. That's pretty much it," Johnson said. "Physically, this was the best I've felt in probably four or five starts. But I faced their whole lineup in the first inning, and that's not a good sign. I don't want to pitch like that."
As far as the attitude of Gonzalez after being sent to the Dodgers through trade is concerned, he appears to be extremely happy.
"When I heard about the trade, I had to pack really fast," he said. "I saw this T-shirt and it was like, 'There couldn't be a better shirt to wear today.'"
While Gonzalez will be looking to repeat such a performance in the upcoming games, the Marlins will be trying to inhibit him from experiencing anything like this again in the next match.
