Miami Marlins knock out Atlanta Braves 4-2 as Carlos Zambrano is solid on the mound - MLB Update
The starter Wade LeBlanc and relief pitcher Carlos Zambrano combine to keep the Atlanta Braves from blowing the lead as the Miami Marlins win 4-2 at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on August 1, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
The offence which has knocked down even the best in the business this year was challenged by LeBlanc on Wednesday.
LeBlanc has just recently been promoted to the starting job by the Marlins.
Although he pitched just little more than four innings, he managed to block the eagerness of scoring runs by the Braves’ batters.
He gave up one run while issuing five hits.
Meanwhile, Zambrano’s show of over one inning on the mound was equally praiseworthy. He struck-out two and allowed one run as he earned his sixth win of the season.
Zambrano did the starting job for Marlins throughout the season, but only recently he had been demoted to the bullpen. He was replaced by Wade LeBlanc on the rotation.
He will be extremely pleased with the way he is gradually reversing his decline in the season.
Offensively, the Marlins struck 12 hits on Wednesday.
Their shortstop Jose Reyes adds consistency to an otherwise volatile season he has had. Continuing with the multi-hits games that he has started to experience in the last few weeks, he was 2-for-4 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Miami’s first baseman Carlos Lee was impressive on the plate, as he managed two hits in three at-bats while contributing one RBI.
As far as the Braves’ pitchers were concerned, their Ben Sheets recorded his first loss of the season. In little more than six innings, he gave up four runs and leaked 11 hits.
Sheets regrets the moments when he permitted Marlins to snatch the momentum from them which was on their side in the last couple of weeks.
"It stinks when you're riding a long winning streak," Sheets said. "In the first inning, I gave them the momentum right out of the gate. The momentum that we earned over seven games. I just couldn't get out of the inning."
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen expresses his pleasure after winning the game.
"Obviously, he wanted the win but we've got to take care of business," Guillen said. "I'd rather win the game and stay healthy than win the game and get (LeBlanc) hurt."
The Braves are known for bouncing back. Therefore, the Marlins will be displaying their best in the next game to keep them from ruining their momentum.
