Miami Marlins look to improve in 2013 regular season with young players on roster - MLB Update
Miami Marlins are hoping against hope that they rebound next year. Young Minor Leaguers that will be occupying their roster in 2013 are being expected to lead the club to an improved show during the upcoming season.
The Marlins could not live up to the hype last year, which was created by an addition of expensive free agents by them.
Despite presence of star players, they struggled all through the season, ending up on the lowest position of the table.
As consequence of a dismal show, the on-going offseason sees their management take drastic measures.
Some of the established players in the club have been traded; even those that were relatively better for example, Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle, have not survived the wrath of the management.
Almost a whole new roster has been created, consisting of young and unproven Minor Leaguers.
Except for a few players, the Marlins will enter the 2013 season without having anyone to look up to for some exceptional performances.
With no hope in sight, the officials of the club are taking the upcoming season as a learning experience for the team.
They are trying to construct a strong roster for the future.
President of baseball operations for Miami, Larry Beinfest, believes major changes introduced recently by the club are reflective of the fact that they are starting a new beginning.
They exhibit the intent of the management to think long-term.
"This was just a redo," Larry Beinfest said. "This is just a reset. It's just sheer disappointment. There is a payroll component. But this is just, almost like, kind of starting over."
Furthermore, Beinfest is aware of the fact that the Marlins are least likely to put up anything remarkable in the upcoming season.
However, he wants to see the youth on the roster stepping up and demonstrate potential.
"We can go play right now," Beinfest said. "We're young, though. We have inexperience in a number of areas. We have some uncertainties."
At best, the Marlins can expect their team to move up a little bit from the bottom ranking in 2013 and end up somewhere around the touching distance from second position.
