Miami Marlins lose 4-8 to Colorado Rockies as Carlos Zambrano leaks runs - MLB Update
Carlos Zambrano does a poor job as starter and the Miami Marlins are drubbed 4-8 by the Colorado Rockies in the third game of the three match series at Marlins Park, Miami, FL on May 23, 2012.
Start of the innings witnessed the Marlins leading and heading for an easy win. The Rockies came back strongly in the fourth. As soon as they nullified the lead, addition of four more runs in the fifth strengthened their position further in the game.
Zambrano cut the sorry figure. By giving up seven runs in just five innings, he did the Marlins an irreparable damage. His confidence will be low. The manager Ozzie Guillen will be looking to have a chat with him and will make sure he does not get worse
after being treated so ruthlessly.
Short-stop Jose Reyes faced five at-bats and made two hits. He contributed two RBIs and with this his on-base-percentage rose to .342.
Returning after sitting out for some days, second baseman Omar Infante went 1-for-4. He holds an enviable slugging percentage of .559 in the season, highest in the line-up. He will be looking to continue from where he had left.
Third baseman Hanley Ramirez becomes sudden pride in the line-up. He kick-started and had forgettable first month of the season. He seems to have returned to his best now as his batting average has suddenly improved to .256.
He made two hits in four at-bats on Wednesday.
The Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen was fascinated the way the game turned around within a span of two innings.
"This game is crazy," Guillen said. "I love baseball. Pretty nice, huh? We're up by three with Carlos on the mound, I've got a smile on my face."
Alex White recorded a win for the Rockies as starter. Six innings he threw were not the best, one can imagine from a quality pitcher like him. The fact his counterpart was even worse, pride of being winner came his way, despite the four runs he gave up.
As far as relievers were concerned, the Marlins will like to see them replicating performance in upcoming games.
Instead of making an unnecessary fuss of the loss, the Marlins will look to take heart from positives coming out in the game.
