Miami Marlins lose to Arizona Diamondbacks 2-3 as Jacob Turner gives up three runs - MLB Update
The starter Jacob Turner gives up three runs as the Miami Marlins lose to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-3 at Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona on August 22, 2012 in the third game of the four match series.
Marlins replied strongly after trailing by two runs in the first inning. Adding two runs in the top of the second, they tied the score and therefore were looking forward to score few more runs in order to win the game.
However, the one run that their starter Turner allowed in the third permitted the Diamondbacks to restore the lead.
Instead of launching a counter-attack from there onward, the Marlins showed little resistance and easily gave the Diamondbacks an easy passage toward victory.
Marlins connected five hits on Wednesday. Apart from the home-run by the left fielder Justin Ruggiano, none of their batters send any base-runner aboard.
Their right fielder Giancarlo Stanton faced three at-bats and did not connect any hit.
Meanwhile, Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen has talked of the pick-off that resulted in the tag-out of shortstop Jose Reyes while he attempted to steal the base. Guillen was ejected on Wednesday after he argued with the umpire.
"You are not supposed to argue balks and I know that. I have spent 30 years in the big leagues and I know that," Guillen said. "When I ask what the reason you kicked me out and you don't answer me, then I am going to stay on the field as long as I can to
make sure you tell me. But he never told me."
Despite the fact that Turner could not avoid the loss, his command was impressive and the six innings that he pitched were nearly perfect except for the few poor throws that resulted in the home-run and a couple of hits.
Marlins’ manager Guillen realises that Turner was not far from his best on the mound in the game.
"Outstanding," Guillen said. "He was relaxed on the mound, very nice and loose. He was throwing a lot of strikes. He made one bad pitch but I like what I see."
The series has one game remaining now and therefore in order to retain some pride the Marlins will be looking to win it.
