Miami Marlins lose to Cincinnati Reds 0-4 in 2012 regular season encounter - MLB Update
Miami Marlins faced a shutout 0-4 loss against Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 5, 2012 during their regular season contest as their starter Mark Buehrle gives up seven hits.
What happened today with Marlins was not any different to their season opener game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Their offence betrayed them again. Collecting only three hits in the whole game, they struggled against starter Johnny Cueto.
Two of their stars, Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle, did not have enough to save their team from an easy defeat. Reyes managed one hit in four at-bats but remained short of completing any one.
Buehrle threw six innings and struck-out five in the process. He walked two and conceded two earned runs.
Lone glimpse of his talent surfaced during the game when he incredibly survived a loaded bases situation and disallowed the Reds a runs spree.
Effect of not generating many hits was markedly visible as players like Hanley Ramirez and Giancarlo Stanton were unable to accelerate further from two bases they were done with.
Marlins third baseman Ramirez remained hitless during four at-bats.
Reiterating confidence in the ability of hitters, Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez believes it is just a matter of time for the batters to start getting the right connections on the plate.
"We have good hitters on this team," Sanchez said. "We know all of a sudden with these guys, it's going to be awesome and ridiculous. We just have to let it happen, not try to push it to happen."
Cueto stood out from the Reds as he threw seven innings and struck-out four going scoreless. All the hits that the Marlins managed came off his pitches.
As regard to their hitters, a solo home-run of the game was struck by their right fielder Jay Bruce. In three at-bats, he hit once and added two RBIs.
In total 30 at-bats, Reds managed 10 hits, way more than just three hits by Marlins in 29 at-bats. Marlins will be looking for some soul-searching after two back-to-back defeats and the results must be scrutinised at the earliest. Why the offence is stuttering
time and again is a question tough for manager Ozzie Guillen to answer.
