Miami Marlins lose to St. Louis Cardinals 7-8 – MLB Recap
The Miami Marlins were defeated by last year’s World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals 7-8 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 25 at Marlins Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Marlins’ played poorly and under pressure which caused them a humiliating defeat.
Though the Marlins’ side went early into the lead, the Cardinals showed more courage and kept their opponents under pressure and eventually won the game in style.
Last innings’ rally proved decisive for the Cardinals as they strengthened their three-game winning streak with another win.
Pinch-hitter Joe Kelly played wonderfully and helped the Cardinals to create a four run lead which literally proved crucial for St Louis’ side as they took the game away with a narrow margin.
"I was the most nervous I could be and I was like, `Man I might come up in a situation where I'll actually have to hit, I know I'm pretty fast (and I thought) I can beat this ball so I just started sprinting as fast as I could,’" Kelly said with confidence
and explained his winning role.
Later the Cardinals’ manager Mike Matheny stated in the media of his team’s great performance and the way his senior players contributed in the win. He said with confidence, "We've been told when he came up that he was probably going to be one of our hitters
on the pitching staff, Unbelievable, Through some crazy stuff, guys getting out of jams, it was a great effort. Go figure that was the game-winner.”
Cardinals’ rotation also played well. From starter Jake Westbrook to reliever Fernando Salas and to closer Eduardo Sanchez, everyone played their part in their teams’ tremendous win.
Westbrook started the game with full confidence as he remained calm on the mound for first six innings. He received two runs and only one hits while his ERA stayed balanced at 3.77.
Reliever Salas stayed on the mound for 0.1 innings and received only one hit.
Closer Sanchez also played well as he gave only two runs and two earned runs in his team’s superb win.
