Miami Marlins make initial offers to Albert Pujols, Jose Reyes – MLB Update
The Miami Marlins are ready to bring drastic changes to the ballclub and have already initiated an effort for the said reason. A first step towards changing the mentality of the ballclub was the introduction of Ozzie Guillen as manager of the team, right
after the regular season came to a close. Thereafter, there has been no stopping for the Marlins and it seems that the ownership and management plans to go the extra mile in a bid to become the best team in National League within months of a colossal failure.
The Marlins finished last in the National League East division this past season, failing to cope up with almost every team on the circuit. In a bid to curb this, the management plans to go on a spending spree in the offseason and lure the big names to the
ballclub. There have been rumours that the ballclub plans to land one of Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols, but no concrete details in this regard have yet been announced.
Now, there is news that the Marlins have made a six-year 90-million-dollar offer to Reyes and a nine-year 225-million-dollar offer to Pujols. However, sources have denied any such offers and it is believed that these contracts are highly inflated compared
to what the actual offer is.
The New York Mets have not made an offer to their free agent shortstop Reyes as yet and the management had earlier asserted that they will wait for other teams to determine a price tag for the unusual offensive talent, who is equally talented at shortstop.
This is a rare combination in baseball, but a talent such as Reyes is rare.
With agents involved, the figures are usually quoted more than what they actually are to draw an interest of other teams. Further, whatever these offers were, there is room for negotiation, given the fact that it is still early in the offseason.
Pujols declined a ten-year 200-million offer from the St. Louis Cardinals last year and has put on hold a similar nine-year offer this year. With monetary value given high importance, it will be interesting to see how this case unfolds.
