Miami Marlins manage two-million fans attendance for third time since their history - MLB Update
The mark of two-million fans attendance has been achieved by the Miami Marlins on Monday despite the fact their performance in the season has been forgettable. This has a lot to do with the opening of their New Marlins ballpark before the season.
The ballpark was constructed using millions and its state of the art outlook attracted the media spotlight when it was inaugurated.
Keeping this in view, it was just natural to expect the fans to rush to the ballpark during the matches in great numbers.
However, as the season heads toward its conclusion, the attendance is likely to decline. The fact the Marlins are about to experience a humiliating exit from the season strengthens the notion that the fans will have little motivation visiting the park from
now onward.
From day one in the season, the Marlins have been below par.
While initially spectators thronged almost every corner of the stadium, later the numbers fell sharply due to the dismal shows coming off from the Marlins.
By-and-large fans were fascinated by the beauty of the park. They attended it more due to the entertainment it offered than anything due to the great performances by the team.
The management will be concerned about next year. The level of attendance managed this year is not likely in the upcoming season if the present winning percentage of the Marlins is anything to go by.
The Marlins will be doing something spectacular to attract fans and make sure they keep reaching the milestone of two-million fans attendance or even more in the forthcoming years.
While achieving the two-million mark is great, it is still far from team’s projections. Thus, the Marlins will be looking forward to see a greater number of fans coming as the season nears an end.
Unfortunately the day when the Marlins attained this landmark, they were defeated by the Atlanta Braves which further indicates that the fans’ interest will be waning in the days to come.
Wade LeBlanc cost the Marlins the loss on Monday by throwing a pitch which was struck for a three-run homer.
“That was just a mistake,” LeBlanc said. “Tried to go away, left it middle, and to a hitter like that, you can’t afford to do that. Other than Uggla, it was just one of those nights.”
It will be interesting to see whether the Marlins can see significant improvements in attendance during the rest of the regular season.
