Miami Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen confronts a wave off from Bobby Valentine - MLB Update
All was going well until sixth inning when a ground ball adjudged as a foul ball was not in accord with Miami Marlins first base coach’s understandings on whose behest manager Guillen entered the field complaining of the fact that it was not the call of
first base umpire to judge.
While manager Guillen was ejected from the field, it was Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine who came to the fore to enjoy his misery, sarcastically giving him a good bye wave when he was forced to his way off the field by the umpire.
At the time Marlins’ manager Guillen was being booed off, he was unaware of it and then later when he came to know of it he uttered something so funny which was a little over the top to be mentioned here perhaps.
“I didn’t see it,” Guillen said. “I would have told him to go and (expletive) himself, too. That’s the way Ozzie Guillen is.”
Interestingly enough, he never repented of his action and instead went on to suggest that after all it is Spring Training and not the regular season and every one must be aware of his responsibilities. Protection of players is what matters to him and that
is a reason he made his way on the field.
Funniest aspect of the whole story is the passage Guillen travelled through while exiting. As it happened, he had to leave the field from near the dug-outs of Red Sox and that is where, perhaps their manager Valentine finding him close enough to be mocked
at taunted him by saying “See ya.”
While Boston's manager Valentine said he has never been ejected in his career, he added seeing one of the managers being tossed in a game has set a lesson for him
“It was lesson time,” Valentine said. “Ozzie was telling the first base umpire it wasn’t his call, because the ball was in front of the bag, and he didn’t want to hear that.”
Although Marlins lost 3-5 to Red Sox in the end, it was the ejection that triggered spicy arguments from both managers that this game will be remembered by them for a long time.
